Upon using it the first time it was smooth but not oily. You don't need very much because it spreads nicely on your skin. As a mom, I love this product for my hands especially because they tend to be the most dry in the winter. I would definitely recommend this product for skin care because it has worked so well for us. Some of the great things I would point out about this Skin MD's Skin Shielding Lotion, is that it is Paraben free, fragrance free and hypoallergenic. My favorite ingredient in this product is Aloe Vera, which has always been a product my family has used, over the years.
More information from Skin MD's website:
"Shielding lotion is a lotion that forms a protective barrier on the skin and keeps out irritants and chemicals. It also allows the natural oils and moisture to remain in the skin so it can heal better. It is a big advantage that shielding lotions are light and go on without a greasy mess," says Dr. Brian Zogg, a dermatologist in Albert Lea, MN
